Hello Everybody,
If you haven't already heard through friends, family, or facebook, I am off on an adventure this July. Only this time the trip has a greater purpose!! Myself and two friends from Australia (Danny Blackwell and Dan Berger) are raising money for 3 African Charities. In order to raise awareness and raise funds we will be attempting to paddle kayak's, unassisted, East to West across Lake Victoria in Africa, a journey that has never been done before. If your not familiar with Lake Victoria, it is a BIG lake; actually the largest lake in Africa, and the third largest lake in the World! It is bordered by three countries: Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Our route takes us from the Western shores of Kenya to the Eastern coast of Uganda; a journey of more than 250km (155 miles) and should take anywhere from 7-14 days, depending on weather conditions.
The charities have been chosen because of their location (each one is located in one of the 3 countries that borders the lake); their reputation as legitimate and well run charities that have a track record of using their available funding to actually do charity work as opposed to paying fatcat salaries to administrators; and for their respected causes ranging from health education, community development, and their main focus of orphan care! 100% of the proceeds that we raise go directly to these charities.
Here is where you come in!
We are looking for donations, ranging from $5 to as much as people are willing to give. Now I know times are hard for everyone right now, and most of my close friends are dealing with the economic crisis first hand, if you are not in a position to donate, then you can still help by forwarding this message on to anybody and everybody you know who might be interested. All it takes is a few forwards to reach thousands, one more to reach hundreds of thousands, and one more to reach millions!
